Hiding Lupus Symptoms
There is always a physical and mental adjustment to the daily symptoms that occur with Lupus. Having a chronic illness lends to not wanting to feel like a burden to others. It is frustrating because the symptoms are so prevalent in daily life. Yet we hide...we try to fit in to appear healthy. I would not curse anyone with this wretched incurable disease. .
I found that the best way to explain lupus is keeping it simple:
Lupus affects your immune system, organ, brain and central nervous symptoms. Leading causes of death is kidney damage and kidney failure.
Lupus is not like cancer, even though Chemotherapy may be prescribed as treatment
Lupus is a chronic illness like rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia or another condition someone may be familiar with.
Your symptoms unpredictably come and go. Symptoms will never go away.
One of the worst places to hide your lupus symptoms is the doctor’s office. Mental health symptoms are often left out, specifically anxiety, suicidal thoughts, depression, and changes in mood and cognition.
Lupies, this is a journey like no other. I can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life...yet I will. Pain is real but so is hope.
