Brain Fog or Memory Loss
Updated: Jan 11, 2021
I started to forget a lot of things. Things that I should have a memory of. Family parties, my birthday parties, I can't even continue this list because quite frankly, I forgot! I don't remember names or faces so easily. I met you before...but don't take this the wrong way...what is your name again? I saw that movie before? Would you tell me what I thought of it?
Since I can't remember names of streets, I speak in locations. You know that tall building...the blue one...there is a fire hydrant in front of it....oh my goodness!! I only drive because I have the assistance of GPS. I thank goodness we have upgraded from maps...can you imagine! I would never be able to get into my local Dunkin' Donuts. Oh coffee! Lovely Coffee!
My rheumatologist was concerned when it took me half a school year to remember the directions to the twin's school, 20 minutes away, without GPS. The twins would grumble whenever they heard Mapquest directing the way. It ruined their straight non-interrupted Spotify- BlackPink listening.
I was seen by a neurologist. They took some MRI's with and w/out contrast. Why are the MRI's so damn loud and nerve-racking! Remember to relax, though. They were able to rule out other vicious illnesses such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Alzheimer's. I then, completed various Neurocognitive testing. It's a way to measure brain function non invasively. It uses paper-and-pencil or computerized tests to assess important aspects of cognition: attention, memory, language, reaction time and perception.
It is a test of wills! I say that as someone who has an attention span of a toddler and the sleep pattern of a newborn. So here I am. Autoimmune diseases is a game of, "Lets rule this out," "Let's test for this," "Let's see if there is a bad reaction to Gabapentin and/or Prednisone?"
Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Prednisone can help lower certain immune-related symptoms, including inflammation and swelling.
I mean, COME ON!!!!! Symptoms are going to make your life beyond colorful!! There is this quote about running that has the same sentiment of tolerating lupus.
"The race always hurts. Expect it to hurt. You don't train so it doesn't hurt. You train so you can tolerate it." -Unknown "That is the way," -Mandalorian
